Slow Art Weekend

/ Collections - Programs

slowartday-logosYou may be familiar with the Museum’s Slow Art Sunday, a weekly experience, through the guidance of a docent, where one can leave behind their hectic schedule and take time to unwind, recharge, and reflect by looking closely at a work of art. But did you know there is an international Slow Art Day? There is, and it is happening on Saturday, April 9!

Slow Art Day began in 2009 with volunteers hosting events at 16 museums and galleries in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The BMA joined early, with volunteer-run Slow Art Days starting in 2010. So far this year, 97 museums and galleries from around the world are participating. The BMA is taking Slow Art Day one step further by having a Slow Art Weekend, where we will hold two Slow Art Experiences on April 9, as well as our usual Slow Art Sunday on Sunday, April 10.

Come see how fast you can fall in love with slow art! Join us this weekend for our Slow Art events:

  • Saturday, April 9 from 11AM–Noon: Master Docent Emily Omura will lead a discussion on Allegory of Charles I of England and Henrietta of France in a Vanitas Still Life, by Carstian Luyckx.
  • Saturday, April 9 from 2–3PM: Docent Mary Lynda Crockett leads us in a discussion on Looking Down Yosemite Valley, California, by Albert Bierstadt.
  • Sunday, April 10 from 2–3PM: Master Docent Caroline Wingate will lead a discussion on Gravity’s Rainbow, by Odili Donald Odita.
